Multi-Million Dollar Homes Sold - 2011
What homes have sold in the Los Angeles area for over $10 million in 2011? The chart below lists all single-family homes sold exceeding the $10,000,000 price point this year. The homes are located in the most exclusive enclaves of Los Angeles proper, including Bel Air, Holmby Hills, Brentwood, and the Sunset Strip/Bird Streets areas of the Hollywood Hills. Many of the properties are also located in the adjacent cities of Beverly Hills (including Beverly Hills Post Office) and Santa Monica.
Over the past several months, several dozen properties have sold for $10 million dollars and up. These luxury estates include some of the the most expensive residences available in the city. The list does not include homes sold in the Malibu area, which has also seen a fair number of beachfront properties in this bracket change hands.
The Spelling Mansion
The area's top sales include the famed Spelling mansion, at 594 South Mapleton Drive. The asking price on the mansion was $150,000,000 and it eventually sold for $85,000,000. The Holmby Hills estate stands as the highest-piced single-family home sold in Los Angeles in 2011. It is unlikely that the sale will be topped any time soon.
The smallest home on the list is just over 5,500 square feet, yet it sits on a parcel that is over an acre in prime Beverly Hills. In this price bracket, lot sizes are especially important as homeowners want a quiet piece of the world they can call their own. Homebuyers in this price range often list a large lot as necessary because they desire to enjoy the privacy and security of a secluded compound. Sizeable lots offer the opportunity to add on to the main residence and, in some cases, to reconfigure it entirely. This is frequently done in the hills as the main structure is often repositioned or rebuilt to take advantage of spectacular city and ocean views. Large lots also provide ample room for grand motor courts, swimming pools, guest houses, staff quarters, tennis courts, and sumptuous gardens to complete the indoor/outdoor lifestyle that southern California is famous for.
