Los Angeles's "Golden Mile" of High-Rise Condominiums

 

Welcome to my page dedicated to the Wilshire Corridor in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles.

As a real estate agent and property owner, I believe that having an understanding of community resources, neighborhood characteristics, and school information is important when considering buying or selling a home, commercial property, or investment property.

In order to help you better understand the Wilshire Corridor and its relationship to the cities of Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, I have compiled this brief overview of the neighborhood.

Westwood/Wilshire Corridor

Westwood, home to the UCLA campus and bordering Brentwood, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and Century City, is a prime location in West Los Angeles. It also features the famed "Wilshire Corridor".  This winding two-mile section of Wilshire Boulevard has a series of towering, luxury residential high-rises.

The Corridor is located to the east of Westwood Village.  The area is sometimes, though less often, called the "Millionaire’s Mile" or the "Golden Mile".

The Wilshire Corridor stretches from the western part of Westwood Village, to the Los Angeles Country Club on the east.  It is sandwiched between Beverly Hills and Westwood Village.  Wilshire Corridor is known for its line of towering, ultra-modern, luxury condominiums, which create an impressive skyline. 

Wilshire Corridor High-Rises

Many Angelenos are drawn to high-rises on the Corridor because of the ease of living and amenities in the buildings, including security, concierge services, and athletic facilities.  Many units also boast fantastic views.

Penthouse apartments occasionally sell over $20 million. Numerous celebrities maintain addresses on the Corridor, sometimes as a second residence away from their primary estate.

Some of the most notable and prestigious buildings along the Corridor are:

Most of the ultra-modern luxurious condo complexes were not built until the mid-1970s. Before then, this area of Wilshire primarily contained small apartment complexes. Through the years, the building of apartments continued to mushroom until there was no additional space left.

Then, in 1981, the Wilshire-Westwood Scenic Corridor Specific Plan was drafted and approved. The plan addressed concerns such as urban density and landscape issues.

The Wilshire Corridor Today

Today, the Wilshire Corridor is a cosmopolitan thoroughfare, connecting a network of neighborhoods on all sides and offering an unparalleled “skyscape”.  The Corridor offers easy access to cultural, educational, and shopping destinations along Wilshire Boulevard, as well as a direct route from the Pacific Ocean to Downtown Los Angeles. The Geffen Theater and Hammer Museum are located in Westwood, as well as movie theatres and dozens of notable restaurants and shops.

With the luxurious lifestyle and plentiful amenities that its high-rises offer, the Wilshire Corridor provides one of the best condominium lifestyles available in Los Angeles.
